The Environmental Assessment Process
This project has two phases: 1) the Terms of Reference and 2) the Environmental Assessment.
The “Terms of Reference” is a road map that outlines how the Environmental Assessment will be carried out. On November 9, 2017, the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change approved the Amended Terms of Reference for this project.
With the approval from the Minister, Terrapure can now begin the Environmental Assessment (Phase 2). The Environmental Assessment is the study that assesses the potential environmental effects (positive or negative) of a proposal.
The key components of an EA include:
- Consultation with government agencies and the public
- Consideration and evaluation of alternatives
- The management of potential environmental effects
Conducting an EA promotes good environmental planning before decisions are made about moving forward with a proposal.
